Bolaji is reputed to have a knack for goals and is already being tipped to step into the shoes of strikers; Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and Desire Oparonozie.
Fresh from her exploits at the just concluded 24/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season, Bolaji has assured that she is ready for the huge task ahead of her saying; “...I feel so excited like I have a lot to deliver which I know in me, I have a lot to offer to Nigeria.”
Apart from scoring 15 goals in 19 matches in the recently concluded league, it is on record that she found the back of the net consecutively in the first seven games of the NWFL season.
She debuted for the Super Falcons in October, 2024, in an international friendly game against the Fennecs of Algeria.
Reports say; Super Falcons legend Desire Oparanozie already had endorsed the promising talent as a possible replacement of her in the Nigerian Women’s national team.
“This is the person that will replace me in the team” Super Falcons legend Desire Oparanozie was quoted to have anointed the NWFL star as successor.
Secret behind her glorious exploits
During an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, Bolaji Olamide was quoted to have told Asukwo Oduo that her achievement is due to hard work and the immense support she has received from her club: coach, Chairman, teammates and members of the backroom staff.
Excerpt of the exclusive interview with Asukwo Oduo…
How does it feel to be chosen by Desire Oparanozie as her replacement in the national team?
Well, this is actually not the first time I am meeting her. I met her earlier when we went to play against Algeria in a friendly game last year. Then she saw me and was like I am sure you are my replacement. A lot of people have been saying that I am another replacement for the legend Oparanozie. I feel it is a great privilege for me, it is an honour to be chosen by a legend like her. I feel so excited like I have a lot to deliver which I know in me I have a lot to offer to Nigeria. I am up to the task and I am also ready for the assignment.
You scored 15 goals for Remo Stars ladies and you were invited for the Super Falcons game against Cameroon where you came on as a substitute.
What was the experience like playing against Cameroon in Abeokuta?
I played against Cameroon when I was in Flamingoes (U-17). Playing against them is another privilege, representing my country. Coming in from the bench to come and show what I am made for. Although I didn’t get too many minutes, it’s an honour to be in the team. I have so much to offer.
The 2024/25 season was an honour, scoring in all games, especially in the first round. It is about creating a record in the NWFL as a whole. It is due to hard work, discipline, dedication and the encouragement from my coach Wemimo Matthew.
She has been there for me and my teammates and it is not about myself, it is about the collective efforts of my teammates. It is not only about Bolaji, it is about my team. Even from my Chairman, Honourable Kunle Soname, he has been so wonderful to me and my colleagues and the team as a whole. So much support from the backroom staff. So, it is not about Bolaji, it is about all of us at Remo Stars Ladies.
Looking at the WAFCON coming up in July, would you like to be a part of that team to represent Nigeria?
To be part of that team, will be a great honour. I will be so grateful to God if I am called upon in that upcoming list. I won’t just be going there to eat or watch, I am going there to prove myself why I am currently the highest goalscorer in the NWFL.
That is a lot of work but with the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade and the other more experienced players in the squad, I am sure fitting in would not be an issue. I will be so excited if I make the list and I will give my all.
I know you play for Remo Stars Ladies. Are there offers from Europe already or are you working towards it because a player of your talent most times should be playing in Europe.
Well, I am leaving everything to God. There are so many offers (good and bad) just like the way life is; life is about good and bad but it is just a step at a time. I don’t want to rush into anything. I am seeing different offers but I am hoping for the best.
Bolaji Olamide has plenty of age on her side; just 21, therefore she would certainly be a sight to behold bringing her ball control and goalscoring skills to the Super Falcons; as the team prepare to win a record 10th African Women Cup of Nations in Morocco.
