As count down to the Nigeria Super Eagles game against the Gabonese national football team in Morocco on the 13 November, 2025 begins, Jo Bonfrere has offered the Nigeria Super Eagles, the strategy that could enable the team scale through.
Bonfrere, who led the nation’s under 23 football team to win the gold medal in 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, U S.A is an apostle of the strategy; ‘mass attack, mass defense play which he has offered the Coach Eric Chelle tutored side.

He warns that the team must play as a compact set; defend as one solid wall to protect goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, against the incursion of the opposing team, and as well attack in the same manner.
“It’s important for the entire team to protect the goalkeeper,” Bonfrere told Complete Sports.
“This is not the job of defenders alone, midfielders and attackers must track back quickly and help defend, just as defenders support when attacking.”
He emphasised that this must be imbibed in training long before the match day.
“This discipline must begin in training. The coach must give clear instructions, and the players must master them.
“When a goalkeeper faces too much pressure, mistakes will come and those mistakes can destroy a game.”
Now entering the last stages of the qualifiers, the Super Eagles do not need any reminder that at this critical stage, there is no room for even half measure mistake as it could be costly and ruin the entire dream of making it to the World cup.
Emphasis mine!
