From our news desk, Benin
Dear Leaders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
A few weeks ago, I wrote to the leadership of our party urging that after the judgement of the Court of Appeal, the party should, irrespective of who the judgement favoured, come together in the overriding interest of unity and stability, and collectively resolve that the matter should not be taken further on appeal.
Now that the Court of Appeal has delivered its judgement, I feel compelled to once again respectfully but firmly restate that position.

At this point in the life of our party, it is becoming increasingly clear that no court ruling, no matter how definitive, can by itself resolve the deep political disagreements that have emerged within the PDP.
Continued recourse to litigation will only prolong the crisis, deepen divisions, and weaken the party at a time when Nigerians are looking to the PDP for credible leadership and direction.

What our party urgently requires now is political leadership, not further legal confrontation.
The responsibility therefore lies squarely with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to immediately convene a meeting of all critical stakeholders with the sole aim of finding a political solution that all sides can live with, in the overall interest of the party.
This moment calls for statesmanship and courage. It calls for leaders who are prepared to rise above factional interests and act decisively to preserve the unity and integrity of the PDP.
Prolonging this dispute through further appeals will only signal to our members and the Nigerian public that we are unable to resolve our internal disagreements without endless litigation. That is not the tradition upon which the PDP was built!
Many loyal members of our party across the country share this concern.
We believe strongly that the time has come to draw a political line under this dispute, bring all tendencies to the table, and reach an agreement that restores confidence, stability, and cohesion within the party.
Our loyalty is to the Peoples Democratic Party. Many of us have remained committed through difficult periods because we believe in the historic role of the PDP in Nigeria’s democratic development and in its continued relevance to the future of our country.
For that reason, we say respectfully but clearly: the survival, unity, and electoral viability of the PDP must now take precedence over individual victories or factional triumphs.
I therefore urge the leadership of our party to act with urgency, convene the necessary consultations, and guide the party toward a political resolution that will restore peace, rebuild trust, and reposition the PDP for the challenges ahead.
The future of our great party depends on the decisions we make at this moment!

Yours faithfully,
Chris Osa Nehikhare
