According to him, the cleaning exercise was not postponed but that there will be no restriction of movement due to students writing the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
“That the State Government has announced there can be free movement, does not mean we should not clean the various environments we are dwelling in.”
Hence the department of environment in the Council has been adequately mobilized to carry out holistic cleaning of public areas and desilt the gutters on Saturday, he said.
In reaction to a question, Igbinigie assured that going by the already displayed character of the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who he described as ‘talk and do’; the monthly sanitation exercise will not only be sustained but would be improved upon.
“This sanitation is not a ‘gragra’ thing (flash in the pan) like you mentioned; it will be sustained and improved upon because the man Okpebholo is a man who keeps his words and can be trusted.”
According to him, like what obtained under his authority while in Egor Local Government Council, trucks and the necessary manpower have been provided to clear off refuse taken from the gutters.
In Oredo once refuse is removed from the gutters, trucks and payoader machines are on ground to take them to the dump site, Igbinigie assured, saying non will be abandoned to be washed back by rain.
He asserts that cleaning of the environment is an established culture in Oredo and he will personally monitor and supervise Saturday’s exercise in the locality even though there will be free movement to enable “our children go write their JAMB examination.”
