In-spite of the intense war against human trafficking and its evils by Government and associate authorities, the scourge continues with many innocent persons particularly girls in their teens falling prey.

As usual, the perpetrators capitalise on the poverty situation the victims found themselves; to lure them into deeper ditch of all manners of inhuman treatment often ending with tears, lamentations, regrets and heartbreak which proves difficult to mend.

Against this backdrop, is the story of a 19 year old girl simply identified as Ejiro in Delta State, Nigeria.

In a trending video in the social media space, the Police mouthpiece, Delta State Command, Bright Edafe SP, narrates the heartbreaking story.

Capitalising on the poverty the family of the victim finds itself, a female friend of the father connected her to the traffickers under the pretext she would be profitably engaged in a legitimate employment.

Upon this seeming assurance, Ejiro and her family agreed; she travelled with the supposed helper turned tormentor, to Ivory Coast.

But unfortunately, upon arrival, Ejiro discovered to her disappointment that the employment promised, was prostitution which she rejected.

She consequently demanded money be given to her, to return home but her traffickers turned down her request saying at this point, she is not allowed to return.

As Ejiro stood her ground of not going into prostitution, she was sedated (put to deep sleep) via injection.

While in this state of unconsciousness, the traffickers took her to a supposed health facility where a surgical operation was done on her, and her womb harvested/removed.

When her tormentors discovered that the wound from the surgery was proving difficult to heal, Ejiro in her pain was packaged, dumped and abandoned in Lagos, Nigeria.

Somehow, the police got wind of the illegality and evil, swung into action and two women accomplices were arrested.

The female friend of the victim’s father who lured her into the traffickers’ net, identified herself simply as Blessing.

She confessed being paid N400,000 for connecting Ejiro, while the other woman involved who identified herself as Esther, said she was paid N150,000.

Blessing said she is a mother of four children; three boys and one girl; an 18 year old.

While Esther said she has two boys and one girl; five year old. She denied knowing the story would turn the way it is.

This is one story too many; of man’s inhumanity to man; preying on the naivety of vulnerable persons particularly girls and women from poverty ridden background.
