The rescued kidnap victims

The Edo State Police Command says it has rescued 11 kidnapped victims abducted from their farms in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo, Etsako West Local Government Area.

In a statement dated June 27, 2026, signed by ASP Eno Ikhoedem, Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, the Command said it received a distress call late on June 26 reporting the abduction of some Ogbido residents on their farms.
Operatives of the Iyahmo Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, immediately launched a rescue operation in the surrounding forest.
During the operation, the team encountered the kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce gun duel.
Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical response of the operatives, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the forest.
Consequently, nine males and two females were rescued unhurt:

8. Lambo James, ‘M’, 27
9. Wasia Abdul, ‘M’, 48
10. Lucky Emmanuel, ‘M’, 24
11. Suleman Aliyu, ‘M’, 25

The victims were taken to hospital for examination and have since been reunited with their families. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, commended the gallantry and resilience of the police operatives, vigilantes, and hunters whose prompt response led to the successful rescue.
The Command said it has intensified operations across the area and remains committed to ensuring residents’ safety.
