But shortly after take off, it was observed that the plane was descending when the pilot announced that its windshield had been shattered and it had to return to Luanda for an emergency landing.
The team’s media officer Promise Efoghe who spoke to the TVC confirmed the development; disclosing that the pilot announced the emergency landing was the safest thing to do as it was dangerous to have tried to continue flying in the threatening circumstance.
He said eventually, the pilot landed and the entire team was safe only that a few members of the team were already practically panicking.
The team wanted to return home Saturday and have the first practice session in the evening in preparation for the Uyo game against Benin on Tuesday.
But the team will now be flown home on Sunday morning in another plane and would be able to have two training sessions; one in the evening, and another on Monday evening ahead of the must win encounter, Efoghe said.
The Super Eagles were able to secure all three points off the Lesotho team registering 2 – 1 and are poised to double the hard work to be able to score at least two goals against the Cheetahs of the Republic of Benin and pray for the South Africa team to lose against Rwanda.
This calculation hopefully would pave the way for their qualification for the 2026 World cup.
