Mental Health: NUJ Federated Chapel holds awareness campaign, annual lecture

The Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, is set to hold its 2026 edition of Annual lecture series.

 

This year’s edition is themed: ‘knowing Your Mental Health Status; A Pre-requisite For A Robust and Productive Economy.’

Dr. Okonkwo Bartholomew, Senior Registrar, Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu Benin-City, is to deliver this year’s lecture.

 

Programmes outlined; begins on Thursday, July 23, with a sensitisation and awareness campaign on mental health, as the lecture; the main event is billed for Friday, 24 July, 2026.

 

While venue is the Edo State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), 1 Reservation Road, G. R. A Quarter in Benin.

 

As part of the social responsibilities of journalists, the Federated Chapel decided to focus on mental health in this year’s edition of its lecture series, the organising committee have asserts.

 

Hence the two-day programme is designed to raise awareness on mental health issues, particularly among commercial drivers, with a focus on promoting early detection, emotional well-being, and safer roads.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, in Benin, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Comrade Edosa Okunbor said the event is aimed at reawakening public consciousness on the importance of mental health, and encouraging commercial drivers to pay greater attention to their psychological well-being.

He added, that the programme will also feature a sub theme; “Mental Health Awareness and the Role of Opposition Parties in a Democratic System,” bringing together stakeholders to discuss both public health and democratic governance.

 

The two day event promises to be highly educative and enlightening, Okunbor assured.

 

The Federated Chapel therefore, called on journalists, transport operators, students, civil society groups, government officials, and members of the public to participate in the event.

 

The Federated Chapel are in collaboration with Management of the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, (FNPH), Uselu, Benin-City, in putting together the all important event.
