• Seeks collaboration on women empowerment

The League of Women Voters in Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, seeking strategic collaboration to advance women empowerment and leadership inclusion in the State.

The delegation was led by the Chairperson, Barr. Anthonia Asagba, who described the organization as a non- partisan group committed to encouraging women’s active participation in leadership and governance.
Barr. Asagba stated that the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration with the ministry, particularly in empowering more women to contribute meaningfully to societal development.
She emphasized that increasing women’s representation in leadership positions remains critical to building a more inclusive and progressive society.
She further highlighted the group’s focus on advocacy, civic engagement, and capacity building, noting that partnerships with relevant government institutions are key to achieving lasting impact.
Also speaking, the Financial Secretary of the group, Dr. Diana Cornelius, reiterated the need for sustained efforts in promoting gender equality and expanding opportunities for women in governance and decision-making processes.

Responding, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Eugenia Abdallah, commended the delegation for their visit and advocacy efforts.
She reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for women to thrive socially, economically, and politically.
The Commissioner stressed that collaboration with organizations like the League of Women Voters is vital to advancing gender inclusion and sustainable development.
She assured the group of the ministry’s readiness to partner on initiatives that will empower women and strengthen their role in society.
Both parties expressed a shared commitment to fostering a productive partnership; aimed at enhancing the welfare and leadership potential of women in Edo State.
