The Governor made the presentation when he received on a courtesy visit, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said; “Delta State is widely known for its hospitality.

It is a destination that visitors cherish not only because of our welcoming people but also due to our rich endowment in both natural and human resources.

“Our State contributes significantly to the resources that sustain Nigeria, particularly in oil and gas.

“Beyond this, we are richly blessed with a wide range of solid minerals, including silica and coal deposits, among others; we also possess vast water resources, with numerous rivers and waterways that position us strongly for the development of a thriving blue economy.

“With over 160 kilometers of coastline and extensive mangrove forests, Delta State offers enormous opportunities for investment in marine activities, coastal navigation, and logistics.

“We welcome partnerships in the development of ports, jetties, aquaculture, and water transportation systems.“In addition, our fertile arable land makes us well suited for large scale agricultural investments, including palm plantations, animal husbandry, and ranching for meat and dairy production.

“The health sector is another area of great opportunity; as you are aware, many Nigerians currently seek medical care abroad. We are eager to change this narrative by attracting investments that will enable us provide world class healthcare services locally.

“We also recognize the importance of environmental sustainability and are open to partnerships in areas such as erosion control and environmental management.

“We are particularly interested in youth development initiatives; the internship programs you mentioned for young graduates are commendable, and we look forward to collaborating in that regard.

“Delta State is a prime investment destination one of the best in Nigeria; it is not only resource rich but also safe and secure.

“Many of us choose to live and work here because of the peace and stability we enjoy.

“We are committed to protecting and supporting our partners and investors.

“Let me assure you that we stand ready to work closely with you. Should you return with your team, I will personally guide you through various parts of the state to showcase the immense opportunities available,’ the Governor said.

Earlier, Ambassador Mignot, had told the Governor and some members of the state Executive Council that he was on official visit to the state to intimate the Governor about the activities of the European Union in Nigeria.

He said, “I am honored to be here today representing the European Union as a whole, and coordinating with our member states, ambassadors, and partners. This is part of our daily work ensuring strong collaboration and unity in our engagement with Nigeria.

“This is my first official visit to Delta State, and I am truly delighted to be here and to meet you all.

“The European Union remains Nigeria’s leading trade and investment partner; our partnership framework is guided by the Global Gateway Investment Strategy, which aims to mobilize investments through grants, loans, and development finance institutions such as the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Together with EU Member States what we call Team Europe we seek to leverage investments in collaboration with both European and local private sectors.

“Here in Delta State, the E.U8 has previously supported significant initiatives such as the Niger Delta Support Programme, which has now concluded. However, we continue to implement several projects in the region.

“Looking ahead, we believe there is significant potential to do more especially in infrastructure and connectivity; we are exploring opportunities to extend development along the Abidjan Lagos corridor, including waterway transportation and port modernization along Nigeria’s coastline and the Niger River, reaching up to Kogi State and passing through Delta State.

This is being considered in collaboration with partners such as the Port of Antwerp and NEXIM Bank, and may evolve into a future Global Gateway project.

“In addition, we are committed to supporting young Nigerians.

“We also offer opportunities in education and digital development.”
