A veteran journalist, publisher, human rights activist and author, Chief Omoru David at the All Progressives Congress Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 17 April, 2025 told journalists that he would contest the 2027 Senate to represent the Delta Central Senatorial District under the ruling APC.

Chief Omoru who was accompanied to the headquarters by Chief Moses Onah, a former Director of security intelligence, said he has decided to re-contest the Senate following the call by some close political associates in and out of Delta State.
He noted that there was a great need for the people of Delta Central to urgently look forward to a more decisive representation in the National Assembly particularly in the Senate; away from what we have today.
Omoru , who had served in the past administrations in Delta explained that it has been his ambition to serve the Urhobo nation as a senator, and for that reason he tested the waters on October 12, 2013 in a bye-election in Delta Central senatorial District following the death of Senator Pius Ewherido who was elected on the platform of the DPP.
Chief Omoru who contested under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) however lost to Sen. Emmanuel Agwariavwodo of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Asked if he has the resources to run the race, he quickly said that he was not going to let money bags who have stolen Delta State’s money intimidate him and by God’s grace, the resources will come when the need arises.
He noted that the Nigerian Senate requires men and women of vast experiences, people of integrity and not local champions and thieves.
In the air of confidence, Omoru said he has built a robust relationship at the national level that is sufficient to bring home the dividend of democracy to the Urhobo nation.
As he regretted that the exit of late Sen. Pius Ewherido gave birth to the ‘cold’, selfish and poor representation of the Urhobo nation at the Red Carpet Chambers, in the National Assembly today.
“I will serve the Urhobo nation as a senator better than anyone else given the opportunity,” he asserts.
Official declaration
Towards making good his intentions, Chief Omoru has officially declared to run for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
According to sources, he cited his vast experience and commitment to effective representation as reasons for his decision.
Emphasizing the need for decisive leadership in the National Assembly, he pledged to serve the people of Delta Central with integrity and dedication.
This development marks another significant step in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, as various candidates begin to position themselves for key roles in Nigeria’s government.
