Chairmen who would emerge from the July 11 Local Government Council election in Edo State, have been warned on the need for prudent use of funds when they assume office.

Senator Joe Ikpea representing the Edo Central Senatorial District at the national Assembly, sounded the warning; saying the would-be Chairmen must not abuse the autonomy given to the third tier of Government.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo Central Senatorial District campaign flag-off for the forthcoming Local Government election in the State, Senator Ikpea admonished; they should rather use the available funds for the development of the Council area.
While exploring the opportunities and privileges the autonomy now availed the Councils, for positive impacts derived from good governance.
Addressing the APC Local Government Chairmanship candidates, the Senator said: “Once you are elected and resume office, you should be prudent.

“That is really the major thing, be prudent. Once you are prudent and ensure that what comes is not made for you, for your pocket, it is for you to develop your Local Government then you will be fine because by the time you feel it is your money and you do the wrong thing, EFCC is there to invite you.
“You have autonomy now; but you do not have immunity like the executive Governor.
“Know that as a Council Chairman, you can be invited by the EFCC anytime even while in the office. So my advice for you is that you should be very prudent!”
The Senator, who noted that Governor Monday Okebholo is doing so much for the people of the State, charged the would-be Local Government Chairmen to replicate what the State Government is doing at the various Local Government areas.
On his activities at the Senate, Ikpea asserts he would work to sustain all the inputs and initiatives of the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo while he was the representative of the Edo Central Senatorial District at the national Assembly.
All of the inputs and initiatives would be implemented, Ikpea assured in addition to the ones he was already initiating.
He added, that as the Senate Committee Chairman on Drugs and Narcotics, he would continue to campaign against drugs and substance abuse.
Also; he would create empowerment programmes and jobs for the youths in the Senatorial District to complement the State Government efforts.
Ikpea noted, that Governor Okpebholo had done enough to ensure victory for the APC in the July 11 Local Government election.
He therefore urged members of the Party to use those developmental works of the Governor, to canvass votes for the APC councilors and chairmanship candidates in the five Local Government areas that makes up Edo Central Senatorial District and other parts of the State.
