The Edo State Consumer Protection Committee on Monday, 22nd September, 2026, carried out a major enforcement operation against the sale of sachet gin and alcoholic drinks banned by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The operation, led by the Committee’s Chairman, Iyamu Osaro Culture, raided major hotspots including Mission Road, Ekiosa Market, and St. Saviour area in Benin City.

During the exercise, the enforcement team seized large quantities of sachet gin.
The Committee disclosed that most of the products had expired, while others were confirmed to be fake and counterfeit.
In a shocking twist, the team uncovered a shop where beans were being preserved with Sniper, a highly toxic insecticide.
The Chairman apprehended the suspect after he confessed to the act during interrogation.
The suspect was immediately handed over to Police Operatives from the St. Saviour Police Division attached to the operation.
