The verification exercise becomes necessary following a series of complaints emanating from the abandonment of land acquired for more than 20 years ago in Ute; by the bypass.

This was stated in a press release signed by the Ohen- Evbunute, Chief Obasuyi Osagie, the elders’ council secretary, Obasuyi Kenneth and the Okaighele (youth head ) Amb. Dr. Billy Oriakhi and made available to journalists in Benin recently.
According to the release; “the people of Ute deem it necessary to carry out the verification exercise because the lands that have been abandoned without development, have become safe haven for criminals and criminality in the area.”
By this information, owners of landed property in Ute; individual(s) and organisation(s) have been urged to clear the bushes or commence development immediately, it was stated.
Also, anyone interested in the acquisition of landed property in Ute is advised not to go through any agent but the appropriate authorities: the Ohen- Evbunute, Elders’ council and the youth head.
“We are therefore calling on land owners, organizations that acquired land in the community from the year 2003 till date; to come forward with their relevant documents to the verification committee, at the community town hall.
“The committee will be sitting from January to the end of March 2025, beginning from the hours of 9 am – 4pm daily; Sundays excluded.
“Failure to comply with these directives, such land or land owner who genuinely acquired shall be relocated to another area of the community.”
