Dilemma of a good Samaritan

As the heading of this story depicts; an anonymous good Samaritan family took in an abandoned baby at the gate of their house, and decided to legally adopt the child as theirs after efforts to find the biological mother failed. But at age 16, when the child had been nurtured into a promising young man and fully integrated as the family member, suddenly, a strange woman from nowhere showed up claiming to be the mother and demanding taking the child. Now, the family in shock is in a dilemma.

The story as narrated by the anonymous family

Sixteen years ago, our housemaid discovered an abandoned baby, about six months old left on our doorstep. She immediately informed us.

We took the child in and spent nearly nine months searching for his parents. We did everything we could, community announcements, even radio broadcasts but no one came forward. Eventually, we reported the situation to the police. After much thought, we made the difficult decision to legally adopt him, as we couldn’t bear the idea of him growing up in an orphanage.

At the time, we already had three children, and we welcomed him as our fourth. From that moment on, he became fully part of our family. We raised him with love, without any form of discrimination. His siblings embraced him as their brother, and over time, we all grew deeply attached to him.

Now, sixteen years later, just as he is about to finish high school, a woman has suddenly appeared claiming to be his biological mother. For the past three weeks, she has been coming to our home, insisting we return him to her. She says she is willing to undergo a DNA test to prove her claim.

She shows up almost daily, often in tears. Recently, she even brought her pastor to plead with us. This morning, she returned again, threatening to harm herself if we do not give him back within two weeks. She said that if anything happens to her, we would be responsible.

My husband and I are heartbroken and overwhelmed. After raising and loving this boy for sixteen years, the thought of losing him is unbearable. We are in shock and truly do not know what to do.
