DELSUTH new CMD formally assumes office

The new Chief Medical Director(CMD), of Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, Prof. Harrison Abedi on Thursday, 26 June, 2026 formally received the baton of leadership at a handover ceremony held in the Boardroom of the apex health institution.

Making his remarks, his predecessor, Prof. Emmanuel Akpo, highlighted key achievements of his administration, outlined priority areas for consolidation and further development by the new leadership.

Responding, Prof. Abedi commended the former CMD, Prof. Akpo for his service and expressed the readiness to work collaboratively with all staff members.

As he pledged to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor to advance clinical service delivery, training, and research at DELSUTH.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Acting Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC),  Dr. Odometa Bemigho;  Ag. Director of Administration, Favour Amughoro; Head of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharm. Ugege; and Head of Public Relations, Iteme Emmanuel.

Prof. Abedi is the 3rd substantive Chief Medical Director of Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

Earlier, management and members of staff of the hospital had acknowledged Prof. Abedi’s unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, and visionary leadership across various administrative roles.

Also, his meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional expertise in the medical profession which they noted; makes him eminently qualified for this prestigious office.

Their acknowledgement was contained in a felicitations message to the CMD, signed by the Head, media of the hospital, Emmanuel Iteme and exclusively availed to hilltopnationale.com in Benin.

They expressed the confidence that under his stewardship, DELSUTH will attain new heights in healthcare delivery, training, and research further cementing its status as a centre of medical excellence.

Prof. Harrison O. Abedi is a renowned Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and seasoned administrator.

Commentators have described his appointment as a reflection of the Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration’s commitment, to strengthening healthcare delivery in Delta State.
