Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim expressed frustration over his team’s lack of cutting edge after they surrendered their lead in a 1–1 draw against struggling West Ham on Thursday.
United, currently eighth in the Premier League and just two points adrift of the top four, could be in a much stronger position had they not repeatedly failed to protect advantages in recent matches. Similar slip-ups against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest proved costly, while they also suffered a 1–0 home defeat to Everton despite playing nearly the entire game against ten men.
Reflecting on the result, Amorim said his side had the opportunity to secure all three points but were unable to see the game out.
“We should have finished the match with the ball because we had the chance to win,” he said. “The game was under control. We knew we needed to defend higher up the pitch since set-pieces are always dangerous, but we couldn’t manage it. We lost possession, and once again, we dropped two points.”
Diogo Dalot gave United the lead just before the hour mark, but Amorim looked visibly frustrated when Soungoutou Magassa headed home from a corner seven minutes from time.
Assessing the overall performance, Amorim admitted it fell short of expectations.
“It wasn’t a perfect display. We had good spells, but we lost control at times in both halves, especially after we scored,” he added. “It’s extremely disappointing — when you have the match under control and still can’t win.”
