• Say removal in line with Association’s constitution

From our Bureau Chief, Benin

Eyean Cattle Dealers Association in Benin City, Edo State has sacked the duo of Idris Adano as its Board of Trustee Chairman, and Awall Shafie as secretary.

Their sack was consequent upon alleged embezzlement of the sum of about N116 million belonging to the Association.

Also, due to the alleged refusal to pay the sum of N35 million to a company owned by Barrister Dele Edokpayi for the clearing of debris within the market.

Whereas; the Association had released the money to them, for the payment.

The Board of Trustee however, have elected Jidda Tahir and Ibrahim Shariff as Chairman and Secretary respectively in replacement, it was said.

The removed Chairman, Adano had in a statement he and one Adam Gombe, as secretary co-signed; denied the sack, insisting they remain in office.

They described the allegation of financial impropriety and others leveled against them by the Association, as a deliberate attempt by mischievous individuals to sow disunity, instigate confusion, and cause instability within the group.

The statement sighted by our Bureau Chief, said: “We strongly urged all members, stakeholders, the general public, and relevant security agencies to completely disregard such unfounded claims and continue to extend their cooperation to the established leadership.

“The Eyean Cattle Dealers Association remains committed to its core mandate of fostering a conducive business environment for the cattle trade, ensuring market stability, promoting peace, and contributing positively to the economic development of Edo State and Nigeria.”

Reacting, Ejiga Paul Enemona, counsel to the association, told journalists in Benin on Thursday, 25 June, 2026 that the removal of the embattled Chairman and Secretary was in line with the group constitution.

Enemona added that if the removed chairman and the secretary continue parading themselves as the executive members of the Association, the present executive would not hesitate to arrest and initiate legal action against them.

The Counsel explained:
“In this association, they have seven Board of Trustee members and five of them voted against him. Five against two which is more than two thirds.

“The body has also applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), to apply for the removal.

“The former chairman, Idris Adano and others started the business together, and they discovered that Idris was not faithful.

“He does not give accounts of the money that was coming to the association to the point that the people discovered that the sum of N116 million has been embezzled by the former chairman.

“He also within the same period stopped calling for meetings. The other five members were not carried along. Only himself and the secretary were doing all that they were doing.

“In the course of doing so, the people say, no, we can’t continue like this. There are other things that form the allegation or the reason why he was removed.

“The market has been left so unkept. What he claimed he was doing, he was not doing.

“One of my colleagues here in Benin City by name Barrister Dele Edokpayi, has a company that went to clear the market there. And after they have done all those things, he took money from the association that he was going to pay him.

“He refused to pay. As I speak, Barrister Dele Edokpayi has not received a dime from him. The money that was released to be paid to him, according to them, is N35 million. That was done and that was part of why he was removed.”

The embattled Chairman and Secretary were said to have been removed on April 25, 2026 at the Board of Trustee general meeting of the Association in Benin City.
