Ahead of the January, 2027 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) weekend in Benin-City, the Edo State Capital, carried out public sensitisation for the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise across the country.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Edo; Obo Effang led the sensitisation campaign in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The ongoing continuous voters registration is to capture Nigerians who just turned 18 years and those who were hitherto not registered.
Also, eligible Nigerians who lost their voters card, or have their voters card mutilated; and those who have relocated/or want their voters card registration transferred to reflect new address.
Eligible voters who have not registered, can visit any INEC office close to them to get registered or visit the website: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, it was said.
The continuous voters registration exercise which began since May 11, would end on July 10, Edo REC, Obo Effang said.

Addressing the media, Effang said this is the last phase of the registration exercise before the January general election; for eligible voters who have not been captured, to do the needful.

“This is the last and final phase of registration and after today, the people have just 10 days left between now and 10th of July to register.
“So, we think we should use this last opportunity to reach the people where they are in large numbers, and it has really been fruitful as many people who were not aware, have been informed and they have said they would be registering.
“It is 10 days; we have two more weeks of five work days each remaining; from 9a.m to 3p.m daily.”
The sensitisation campaign was taken through two major markets where the population is thick; Ekiosa at 3rd East Circular road, and Oka at Upper Sokponba road in the Capital City.
Some of the people talked to by our reporter, expressed gratitude to the election umpire for the sensitisation saying they would comply.
