• Asserts Edo is a classic for others to emulate!

Kingsley Abavo, Managing Editor, Benin

Fulfilling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) schedule, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is celebrating another successful Congress, ahead of the 2027 national elections.

On Thursday, 19 February, 2026, the Party conducted a peaceful Congress across the 192 Wards of the State, when executives at the grassroots were elected.

Again on Saturday, 21 February, 2026, the Party Congresses at the 18 Local Government Areas of the State to elect new executives was conducted, and ended without any record of disagreement and violence.

As now traditional with the APC, it was via consensus and affirmation.

Hailing the process and outcome, the Party asserts Edo remains the cynosure of all eyes in the country.

On behalf of the Party, the acting State Chairman, Emperor Jarett Tenebe briefed journalists in Benin.

He urged members not to be carried away by the euphoria of success recorded in the Congresses so far, as there is more work ahead to be done.

The success must be replicated in the electoral outcomes of the “forthcoming general elections”, he urged.

“As we bask in the euphoria of this success which has helped to reshape and deepen the internal democratic culture, we must remind ourselves that the joy of this can be short-lived if it does not resonate in the electoral outcomes of the forthcoming general elections.”

Tenebe attributed the peaceful outcome in Edo to the drive of the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo who he labelled as resourceful and dynamic.

This he pointed out”… has put Edo State in the position of a classic model for others to emulate.

“With our amiable Governor, being the captain of our ship and the field commander of our battalion, we the foot soldiers starting from the State, local government and ward excos must work tirelessly to ensure that the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of Mr. President is reinvigorated and calibrated in all the nooks and crannies of the State.

“While the opposition parties are swimming in an ocean of self-destruction, we must not take that prime delusion for granted.

“Our success must be built on collective mobilization, party cohesion and uncommon unity, which this exercise is signposted.”

Tenebe commended all APC members across the State for what he termed; “high level of discipline, maturity, unity, conviviality and above all unflinching support for Leadership.”

This he noted has “helped consolidate and strengthened our common resolve for a well articulated internal structure.

“An antidote of a progressive political development modelled, to help reshape our political destiny.”

Also, he commended members of the Congress committees for “exhibiting their dexterity, zest, determination, and uncommon cooperation” during the exercise.

Also speaking, the Leader of the Congress Committees, Hon. Kabir Ajanah told journalists; “I want to gladly tell the world, that we have made APC intact as one family in Edo and Edo is APC!

“…I want to tell you that the exercise was hitch free and the Local Government Executives have been duly elected, by the APC family across the various Local Government Council Areas.

“The exercise was done under the rules and regulations guiding the electoral exercise.

“The APC family decided to use a consensus approach to elect officers, into the various 27 vacant positions that we have, at the Local Government.

“I want to tell the world that there are a lot of things we should learn from Edo, Edo has set the pace, Edo has shown it is one family, Edo has also shown it has carried everybody along.

“And this is attributed to the dynamism of a very young and purposeful leadership of His Excellency the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.”

Ajanah noted that the congresses outcomes indicate that governor Okpebholo’s promise to deliver Edo State for the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in 2027, was not a mere theatrics.
