• Prioritize your mental health She admonishes

From our news desk, Benin

A man reaches out his hand over a bright yellow wall towards another person, symbolizing support and connection during Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah has identified with the burden men carry alone, without seeking help; admonishing, “prioritize your mental health!”

June is the month of awareness for mental health of men globally.

Consequently as a mark of recognition, the Commissioner in a statement She personally signed and circulated amongst journalists in Benin, She expressed a heartfelt concern about the burden men carry which negatively impacts their mental health.

In her message titled: MENTALLY HEALTHY MEN BUILD STABLE HOMES, Mrs. Abdallah noted; “Without controversy, many men silently battle emotional pain daily, yet most never seek help until mental stress begins affecting their families, work, and health.”

She adds; “The statistics are startling but won’t dwell on that on a day like this.”

Continuing, She stated; “Whereas the Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development is dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of women, girls, and vulnerable persons, we also deeply care about the wellbeing of men.

“Because we understand that it takes a mentally healthy man to build a stable home and by extension, the Edo State of our dreams!

“As we mark Men Mental Health Month 2026, I encourage every man to speak up, seek support, and never suffer in silence.

“Mental health is not weakness; it is part of healthy living.”

Further, Mrs. Abdallah particularly extends commendation to the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo commemorating the event.

“On this occasion, I must sincerely commend His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, whose ‘SHINE Agenda’ continues to promote hope, inclusion, security, healthcare, and human development for every Edo citizen.

“I am fully persuaded, that a mentally healthy father, husband, brother, and son strengthens families, supports communities, and inspires the next generation.

“I encourage citizens of the State to listen more, care more, and stand together for better mental health and wellbeing of the citizenry.”

Demonstrating her support for the plight of men, the Commissioner stated: “Men, always remember this; you are valued, you are important, and help is always available for you to access.

As She admonished; “Prioritize your mental health!”
